Henri Mathieu was a prominent French designer who significantly influenced lighting design in the mid-20th century. He founded the Mathieu Lustrerie Atelier in 1948 in Marseille, which became known for its innovative and artistic approach to lighting fixtures. Mathieu's work in the 1970s, particularly with brushed aluminum blades, turned lighting into sculptural art pieces, earning him recognition and acclaim. After his untimely death in 1982, his family, including his son Régis Mathieu, continued his legacy, maintaining the atelier and expanding its reach internationally.
