Designed by Studio B.B.P.R. for Olivetti in 1959/60, the ‘Spazio’ sideboard exemplifies the studio’s innovative approach to modular office furniture. Produced in the 1960s and winner of the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1962, this piece features a sophisticated composition of coated steel, plastic, glass, and vinyl, with two storage cabinets beneath the tabletop. B.B.P.R., a Milan-based architectural group founded in 1932, was known for blending modernist principles with historical references, a philosophy evident in their Torre Velasca in Milan. Their collaboration with Olivetti began with designing the New York Fifth Avenue showroom in 1954, leading to the Spazio line, which included desks, chairs, and shelving systems, setting a new standard for functional and elegant office design.
