After World War II, the name was changed to VEB Leuchtenbau, as almost every light company in the GDR did. In 1963, they produced 1.5 million lamps, with 80% of them exported. In 1965, they produced 120 different lamp models.
The Kontrast floor lamp, designed by Lutz Rudolf in 1961, is one of the most well-known VEB Leuchtenbau products. The manufacturer himself doubted the success of "this thing," and only a small number of pieces were planned.
However, production continued until 1975, when 11,000 pieces were produced. The GDR citizens were fortunate that the product landed primarily on the domestic East German market at the time, which was not the case with all design objects.
